This Week in History… The 40-hour work week was established by the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938. The act also established the national minimum wage and “time and a half” pay for overtime, in addition to prohibiting child labor. Today, some companies are harkening back to the time of the “true” 40-hour work week, saying goodbye to weekend work and after-hours emailing.
